This week Spray Planet is setting aside the 94’s, Hardcore cans, Maximo’s, MTN Speed and all the more familiar Montana spray paint lines.  Instead we take a closer look at Primer cans from the MTN PRO Line series to show you what they’re really all about. The MTN Pro Line series spray primers are the premier creative use aerosol primers on the market – covering just about every specific need you can think of!

Spray paint primers are a great addition to any creative, DIY or at-home project where painting an object or surface is involved. In most cases, spray paint will typically adhere to most surfaces, so right about now you are probably wondering, “Why waste the time priming it?”. Well, there are multiple reasons, including:

  • Priming provide ultimate adhesion of the paint
  • Priming increase the durability and longevity of the paint
  • Priming can yield the true color of the paint
  • Sandable Primers allow layering priming alternating with sanding to create ultra-smooth surfaces.

Utilizing primers does mean an extra step or two in your project. However, if you want the best results, you have to be willing to put in the work!

When looking into the Montana Colors PRO Line Primer series, there are four types - each with their own specific use and application. The four MTN Pro Line Primers are: the EPS Primer; the Plastic Primer; the White Base Primer; and the Gesso Primer. Whether you are painting a surface that is wood, plastic, canvas, ceramic, metal, Styrofoam, etc., Spray Planet and Montana Colors Pro Line Spray Primers have you covered!

Montana Colors Pro Line Spray On Primers: EPS Primer for Styrofoam

Montana Colors Pro Line EPS Primer

Montana Colors Pro Line EPS Primer is designed specifically for use with Styrofoam and similar polystyrene materials. Normally spraying any paint on these Styrofoam or polystyrene will cause them to shrivel and deform – in turn making it very difficult to apply clean smooth colors to these materials. This is where MTN Colors Pro Line EPS Primer steps in. When sprayed EPS Primer applies a grey, acrylic-based protective coat along the porous exterior of the object. Once dry (5-10 minutes), the EPS Primer allows for easy application of anykind of paint to the polystyrene object! To ensure complete coverage before you apply your spray paint, we highly recommend applying no less than five (5) thin EPS Primer layers, allowing each pass to dry. This primer is perfect for those elementary and middle-school Solar System projects for Science Class where painting Styrofoam can be painful to say the least!

Key Features of MTN Colors Pro Line EPS Primer:

  • Extremely fast dry time
  • Easy and fast to apply and recoat
  • Does not contain lead or other heavy metals
  • Perfect adhesion
  • Excellent coverage

Montana Colors Pro Line Spray On Primers: Plastic Primer

Montana Colors Pro Line Plastic Primer

As its name implies the Montana Colors Pro Line Plastic Primer is ideal for priming plastic surfaces. You won’t know this until you try, but applying spray paint to a vast number of plastics just doesn’t work.  Sometimes it just flakes right off and other times it seems to never dry – remaining tacky to the touch.  Here is where utilizing MTN Colors Spray Plastic Primer comes in handy! This primer provides a transparent, colorless coating to the exterior of the plastic surface. Once Montana Plastic Primer has dried, any type of paint can then be easily applied to the object. What makes Montana Colors Pro Line Plastic Primer stand out from the other spray plastic primers, is MTN Colors formulated it’s base solution with special additives that optimize adhesion of subsequent paint coats. To put it simply, Montana Colors plastic primer will grab the subsequent paint particles and lock them in, yielding a vibrant color and smooth finish of any paint applied to the surface once the primer has dried. We highly recommend for you to apply at least three (3) thin layers of plastic primer, allowing for 5-10 minutes of dry time between each coat being applied. Montana Colors plastic primer is perfect for adding a little bit of color to models, plastic parts, toys, chairs, and other plastic household items.
